The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) announces the establishment of the International Law Research Scholarship for qualified full-time Taiwanese university students. The purpose of the scholarships is to students to do research related to international law, enhance related professional standards, and enrich diplomatic practice.
MOFA expects to grant three scholarships of NT$80,000 each in 2020. Applicants must submit a report on public international law of 5,000 Chinese characters in length through their university by September 30. Regulations concerning both the application and the review process will be published separately and provided to institutions of higher education.
Recent years have seen great progress in talks toward important international agreements and conventions, and the passage of many. Such developments are both the realization of and an innovative achievement for international law. They have had a great effect on the vital interests of our country and rights of our people. In responding to this international trend, Taiwan has incorporated many international human rights conventions into domestic law or put forth a number of related, proactive measures. International law has a comprehensive effect at all levels on economics, science and technology, human rights, the environment, and politics in Taiwan. The establishment of the International Law Research Scholarship will help Taiwan train experts in international law. It will also help academia, NGOs, and businesses with international exchanges and cooperation. The scholarship may be expanded in the future depending on implementation and results.
