Ladies and gentlemen:
Good afternoon! Dzień dobry!
Firstly, I want to express Taiwan’s sincere gratitude to the Polish-Taiwanese Parliamentary Group for its staunch support in advancing our nations’ bilateral relations.
As a rising power in both NATO and the European Union, Poland is actively engaging in the Indo-Pacific. This commitment was highlighted in the April joint statement between Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, which emphasized the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. Furthermore, in February, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski underscored Poland’s continued interest in pursuing technology cooperation with Taiwan in his annual foreign policy address.
Beyond geopolitics, our nations’ economic ties are also reaching new heights. Notably, Taiwan’s Foxconn has formed a strategic partnership with ElectroMobility Poland to produce electric vehicles for European markets. And the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers’ Association has announced a multibillion-dollar technology park in Poland, which is expected to create tens of thousands of jobs.
The Taiwan Expo in Europe, currently taking place in Warsaw, is sure to generate even more opportunities of this kind. As only the second-ever Taiwan Expo on the continent and the first in Poland, this significant trade exposition was intentionally brought to this nation to showcase our growing partnership.
To further advance this momentum, I am delighted to announce another meaningful initiative today: the establishment of Taiwan Language Centers in Europe. Building on years of dedicated efforts to cultivate talent and strengthen partnerships across Europe, this program will complement the growing cultural exchanges and expanding semiconductor cooperation between Taiwan and Europe.
The first centers will be launched in Poland, Germany, France, and the Czech Republic. Their mission will be to create lasting institutional platforms that bring our societies and people even closer together. As such, the centers will be far more than just places to learn a language. We envisage them serving as gateways to Taiwan and as networking hubs for friends of Taiwan across Europe.
I am particularly pleased that Poland will serve as a key anchor of this initiative in Europe. And with the center in Poland set to open soon, it is my great pleasure to unveil its official logo to you today for the very first time.
Finally, I must also say a word of thanks to Taiyang Theatre Company for the brilliant traditional puppetry we just experienced. The troupe’s performance beautifully showcased Taiwan’s unique heritage and reminded us how culture transcends borders. Their show is one of the highlights of the Taiwan Culture in Europe 2026 initiative—a yearlong program taking place in Poland and many other European nations under the theme of “Connecting Culture, Inspiring Future.”
