The Honorable Ivan Rota, Coordinator of the Lombardy-Taiwan Interparty Friendship Group;

Distinguished guests;

Dear friends;

Ladies and gentlemen:

Good evening! Buonasera!

We began today with a focus on the future. During our highly productive exchanges, we explored further deepening the industrial and technological ties between Taiwan and Italy.

Our economies are driven by innovation, precision, and creativity. However, economic ties only form one facet of our relations. A robust partnership requires an understanding of each other’s cultures and peoples, which is what brings us together tonight.

We truly believe that culture transcends linguistic and political barriers, touches hearts, and paves the way for a shared tomorrow. The lively performance by the Taiyang Theater Company offered a window into our heritage as it depicted Taiwan’s unique historical journey that brought about our diverse, open, and resilient society. In addition, it reflects the theme of the Taiwan Culture in Europe initiative, “Connecting Culture, Inspiring Future” this year.

But the connection between Taiwan and Italy runs deeper still. Our countries are united by a strong commitment to defending such shared universal values as freedom, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.

We greatly appreciate the steadfast support for peace across the Taiwan Strait and principled advocacy for Taiwan’s meaningful international participation by the Italian government and parliament, as well as our friends from the Lombardy Council. Taiwan will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with Italy and other like-minded partners to safeguard regional peace and uphold the rules-based international order.

Through culture, industry, and innovation, our two nations are naturally aligned. Tonight is not just a celebration of how far we have come but also a launchpad for where we are going.

Ladies and gentlemen, please raise your glasses with me for a toast: To the enduring partnership and unbreakable friendship between Taiwan and Italy and to peace and prosperity for both our peoples. Salute!
