 (As Delivered)

Good morning!

On behalf of the people and government of Taiwan, I am honored to confer the Friendship Medal of Diplomacy upon Executive Director Reeves, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to enhancing relations between Taiwan and Canada.

Under the leadership of Jordan at CTOT, the relations between our two countries have reached new heights.  Since his arrival in 2018, Jordan has actively engaged with sectors across Taiwan, strengthening bilateral ties in the fields of trade, investment, culture, and indigenous issues. Last year, we signed the Joint Statement on Bilingual Education Cooperation to demonstrate our determination and efforts to implement Taiwan’s Bilingual 2030 policy. And just two months ago, we have concluded exploratory discussions on a bilateral Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Arrangement. We look forward to enhancing our business exchanges through FIPA.

Over the past few years, Canada’s support for Taiwan’s meaningful participation in international organizations has become stronger and stronger. I would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere gratitude to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for publicly speaking up for Taiwan and appreciating Taiwan’s contributions to the international community.

Ladies and gentlemen, all of these achievements were only possible with Jordan’s hard work and support. He has not only been a true friend of mine, but also of Taiwan. Jordan, your dedication and friendship have won you many plaudits. I wish you every success in your future endeavors. And please don’t forget to come back to Taiwan.

Thank you!
