No. 365

US state of Idaho Governor Brad Little is leading a delegation to Taiwan from December 4 to 7. His wife, Mrs. Teresa Little, is also accompanying Governor Little. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) extends a sincere welcome to the delegation.

During their stay, the Governor and Mrs. Little, as well as the delegation members, will call on President Tsai Ing-wen and Premier Su Tseng-chang. They will also attend a banquet hosted by Foreign Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu. In addition, Governor Little will witness the signing of a bilateral memorandum of understanding on commercial exchange and industrial cooperation, thereby further deepening the partnership between Taiwan and Idaho in related industries. The delegation will also call on the Taichung City Government, the Importers and Exporters Association of Taipei, the Taiwan Flour Mills Association, and other organizations to explore new business opportunities.

Governor Little is a staunch friend of Taiwan. In 2011, while serving as Idaho Lieutenant Governor, he also led a legislative leadership delegation to Taiwan. In 2019, during his first term as Governor, Taiwan was his first port of call in his earliest overseas trip. After his reelection in November, Governor Little announced that he would again lead a trade delegation to Taiwan.

Taiwan and Idaho enjoy close economic and trade relations. In 2021, Taiwan became the largest importing country of Idaho products. For the past three years, Taiwan has also been Idaho’s second largest trading partner. This September, when the Taiwan Agriculture Trade Goodwill Mission organized by MOFA visited Idaho, Governor Little personally received the group. Governor Little’s newest delegation is expected to further strengthen the already close and mutually beneficial partnership between Taiwan and Idaho. (E)
