The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Prospect Foundation will be hosting the Ketagalan Forum—2022 Indo-Pacific Security Dialogue at the Grand Hyatt Taipei on July 26. Through this event, the government of Taiwan hopes to enhance cooperation and dialogue with all relevant parties to jointly maintain and advance peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.

With the global COVID-19 pandemic gradually abating, this year’s forum will be a hybrid of videoconferencing and in-person participation. Prominent guests will be invited to deliver keynote speeches in Taiwan and will be joined virtually by key political figures, parliamentarians, scholars, and experts from relevant countries. Discussions will focus on the new cold war between democracy and authoritarianism, responses to the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war on the Indo-Pacific order, and how the US-China rivalry and sanctions on Russia are affecting and reshaping the global economy. The forum will also feature a dialogue among Taiwanese, US, and Japanese lawmakers, underscoring the importance of trilateral cooperation.

A number of important speakers will address the forum in person, online, or through prerecorded videos. These include former US Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, former Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defense Taro Kono, former President of Kosovo Behgjet Pacolli, former US Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis, US Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS), former Australian Ministers for Defence Christopher Pyne and Keven Andrews, member of the Japanese House of Representatives Keisuke Suzuki, former Japanese State Minister of Defense Yasuhide Nakayama, and Director of Chatham House Robin Niblett. In addition, some 20 key political figures and academics from countries including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, the United Kingdom, and the United States will participate in in-depth discussions with Taiwanese officials, legislators, academics, and experts.

MOFA has opened registration to participate in the event and invites the public to watch the proceedings via the Ketagalan Forum channel on YouTube. For registration, agenda details, and other information, please visit the Ketagalan Forum website. (E)
