Press Release No. 066

As part of the Islamic Cultural Exhibition, an outdoor event will be held on April 17 and 18 in the plaza outside the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. Open from noon to 7 p.m., the event will offer visitors a unique experience of Islamic cultural activities, including fast-breaking rites and iftar meals served after sunset during Ramadan in accordance with Islamic teachings. Visitors can enjoy Taiwanese and foreign food and view exhibits of Arabic calligraphy and traditional Muslim dress.

The Islamic Cultural Exhibition is organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, and Taiwan’s Chinese Muslim Association. The indoor segment of the exhibition, running from April 9 to 18, is being held in the Wen-hua Gallery and Cultural Corridors on the second floor of the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall.

Taking part in the outdoor event are the representative or trade offices of Jordan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Oman, Somaliland, and Turkey, as well as halal-certified Taiwanese businesses, restaurants, and cultural and creative enterprises.

The month of Ramadan began on April 13 this year. For Muslims, this is the most important month of the year. Muslim friends fast from sunrise to sunset, engage in self-reflection, and focus on charity. This outdoor event is being held during Ramadan to give visitors, through cultural exchanges, firsthand experience of this Islamic tradition and enhance their understanding of Islam and the Muslim world.(E)
