No. 368

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has received an official notification from the government of the United States that the US administration has informed Congress it will sell Taiwan components for F-16 fighter jets, Indigenous Defense Fighters, and C-130 transport aircraft. The sale is valued at US$428 million. MOFA highly welcomes and appreciates the US government’s steadfast commitment to honoring its security pledges to Taiwan in accordance with the Taiwan Relations Act and the Six Assurances.

This is the Biden administration’s seventh publicly announced arms sale package to Taiwan, continuing the US policy of recent years to normalize weapons sales to Taiwan. It reflects the US government’s high regard for Taiwan’s national defense needs and is beneficial to Taiwan’s timely acquisition of necessary defense articles and elevation of its defense capabilities.

In the face of China’s continuing military expansion and provocative actions in the Indo-Pacific, Taiwan is resolutely determined to defend itself. The Taiwan government will continue to bolster national defense, enhance asymmetric capabilities, and strongly safeguard national security. It will also deepen Taiwan’s close security partnership with the United States in order to jointly preserve the rules-based international order and advance peace, stability, and prosperity across the Taiwan Strait and in the Indo-Pacific.
