No. 009

A three-member delegation of the Lithuanian Parliament is visiting Taiwan from January 13 to 16, 2016, at the invitation of the Republic of China (Taiwan) Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The delegation consists of MPs Valerijus Simulik, Donatas Jankauskas, and Orinta Leipute.

The visit will provide delegation members with a better understanding of Taiwan’s recent political, economic, and social developments. It will contribute to furthering substantive bilateral cooperation as well as parliamentary exchanges. The delegation will call on Legislator Pan Wei-kang, visit the Ministry of Education’s Sports Administration and Youth Development Administration and the Ministry of Health and Welfare, and will be honored with a welcome luncheon hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The parliamentarians will also visit Hsinchu Science Park, National Palace Museum, Suang-lien Elderly Center, Taipei 101, and Tamsui Old Street. Visits to polling stations and other locations will also be arranged for the presidential and parliamentary elections of January 16.

Recent years have seen burgeoning cooperation between Taiwan and Lithuania with, for example, the two sides having held the 14th Meeting of the Steering Committee of Mutual Funds for Scientific Cooperation between Taiwan and Lithuania in November 2015, a delegation from National Taiwan University Hospital having visited Lithuania in September 2014 and the signing of an exchange agreement between National Taiwan University and Vilnius University in March 2013.
