MOFA extends deep condolences on the passing of former US Senator Bob Dole

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of the Republic of China (Taiwan) extends deep condolences on the passing of former US Senator Bob Dole on December 5 at the age of 98, instructing the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States to convey heartfelt sympathy to the Dole family on behalf of the government and people of Taiwan.

 

Senator Dole served in the US Congress for 35 years and was a leading light in political circles, having served as Senate Majority Leader and running for President in 1996. Senator Dole was a great friend of Taiwan, playing a pivotal role in the passing of the Taiwan Relations Act in 1979. He was a longtime supporter of stronger relations between Taiwan and the United States.

 

MOFA deeply regrets the passing of former Senator Dole and expresses the utmost respect and gratitude for his contributions. (E)
